Cindershift
A black that remembers being red. Warms by a few degrees when observed.
Specimen 01 · Iridescent obsidian
Obsidia is a foundry for impossible matter. Specimen 01 is a living obsidian, grown in a field of light and rendered in real time on this page. Move your cursor, and it answers.
Every specimen begins as a seed of intent and a lattice of constraints. We do not carve. We cultivate, one photon at a time, until the material learns to hold a color that has no name.
Properties
A single crystal of grown obsidian. Optically active, structurally uncertain. It refracts a spectrum that shifts with every angle you give it.
State: unstable, and falling

Method
A single constraint is planted: a color that cannot exist under ordinary light. Everything the specimen becomes unfolds from that one impossible instruction.
The seed is suspended in a directed field of light for weeks. It accretes, folds back on itself, and slowly learns to refract in ways glass was never meant to.
Growth is frozen at the moment of maximum instability, the instant before the color would collapse. What remains is a material caught mid-thought.

A black that remembers being red. Warms by a few degrees when observed.

Grown around an absence. Bends every ray it meets toward the hollow at its centre.

Iridescence with a pulse. Warm to the touch, colder in memory.

Crystallised shadow. Holds its form in the dark and dissolves in direct sun.
The foundry
We are not a mine. We are a garden for the impossible, a place where matter is given a color to chase and the patience to become it.
Obsidia is a showcase, there is nothing to buy. But every material here was grown with tools you already have. Here is exactly how.
